Is It Worth It?

Okay, I know all you girls must be thinking I've gone absolutely bonkers putting a picture of a HOUSEFLY (courtesy of Britannica) on a beauty blog. But I have a good reason for doing this. Really.

(Just a little warning though, that what I'm about to tell you is slightly high on the gross-o-meter. Just so you know.)

Recently my mom told me (she's a teacher, by the way) that one of her students came up to her and told her that her friend had taught her a brilliant way of losing weight.

Look at the picture again. Can you guess what is it? No? Read on, then.

What she was told by that brilliant friend of hers (seriously, I'm reporting verbatim) is that everytime she needs to lose a few pounds instantly, she goes hunting.

FOR A HOUSEFLY.

Eat is raw, and you're sure to get hit by diarrhoea. A bad, bad wave of diarrhoea.

Apparently, that brilliant friend of hers went on to say that by purging your inards out, you're sure to fit into that sexy LBD for a night out. (Okay, she didn't exactly say that, but something along those lines).

GIRLS. (And guys). Please, please use your common sense. When you go on a purging spree like that, what you're losing is water. You're dehydrating yourself. And you're not losing any weight in fat.

This site called Rehydration Project also describes why diarrhoea is dangerous.

"Diarrhoea causes rapid depletion of water and sodium - both of which are necessary for life. If the water and salts are not replaced fast, the body starts to 'dry up' or get dehydrated. If more than 10% of the body's fluid is lost death occurs. Severe dehydration can cause death."

And if that's not scary enough, this site says that the common housefly is "capable of carrying over 100 pathogens, such as typhoid, cholera, Salmonella, bacillary dysentery, tuberculosis, anthrax, ophthalmia, and parasitic worms".

I know you want to fit into that LBD/brand new pair of skinny jeans/leather pants etc. But seriously, eating a housefly is not the way to go.

I'm no authority to tell you how to lose weight (as I've got quite a bit to lose myself), but do you really want to be putting all that bacteria and virus into your body? Heaven knows what the long term effects could be.

Seriously - is it worth it?

Okay, not that I'm advocating all this purging nonsense, but isn't it easier to just get laxatives?

This is going to sound condescending, but my guess is anyone idiotic enough to eat a fly is too dumb to know what a laxative is and does.

Sigh. To a certain extent, I actually agree with Kahani. The thought of putting a maggot filled fly down my throat... *shivers*

Oh the maggots are just extra protein. It's all the rotting food, toxins and bacteria that get me.

I've been there, done that (not the purging though) just the losing weight thingy...and i know it's been around for sometime but EXERCISE..really is the key..not unless you consider purging a form of exercise! hahaha well..seriously, that is gross! thanks for posting this, it may sound gross and funny and just plain stupidity but a lot of people out there doing it..just for the sake of beauty..haaayyy so sad

Yea.. it's definitely sad when people start putting beauty ahead of health.

It's so true, there is actually not much of a shortcut to losing weight. Eat healthy and exercise. Unfortunately, easier said then done. =P

There are many children who are suffering from diarrhoea, malnutrition and famine that's why i think its important to see why we should support such projects like the Rehydration Project.
