Do You Use Sunscreen while Driving?I

I am no puteri lilin (translation: wax princess; a Malay term referring to someone who is delicate and fears the sun) and get quite miserable on gloomy days. However, I really do hate driving under the hot sun. You know the feeling: you are waiting for the light to turn green, the sun is beating through the windows and you can feel the skin on your arms burning like crazy.

Argh, it drives me nuts.

My arms are now 3 shades darker than my face and I can see some faint freckles beginning to form. I have started toting sunscreen around in my handbag and keeping a bottle on my office desk so I can whip it out before going anywhere.

I am thinking of buying really long gloves just like female motorcyclists do in Vietnam (their gloves extends alllll the way past the elbows), or of stealing my father's golf arm socks to wear while driving. If i really want to be cheap, I can cut off the sleeves from an old long-sleeved shirt, sew on some elastic and use that instead. I am wondering if wearing arm shields seems too "auntie" though.

Anyway, what do you readers do to protect yourselves from UV rays while you are out and about in your car? Do you use sunscreens, arm shields or super illegal heavily tinted car windows? Or, has it never occurred to you at all?

  1. Lol! I love how we sometimes think alike! Before I got to the part, I was already thinking "Long Auntie gloves!!".
To answer your question, I don't wear sunblock on my arms. Actually, I don't use any on my body! BAD! I'm usually the "drivee" so my left arm looks freckled

  4. My car has Vcool and even with that on I still tan, though you won't feel the burn as much. On top of that, I stuck those black pieces of shields you can fold up and that helped as well. A while back I bought a bottle of sunscreen and put it in my bag but it's really a hassle because I am not used to it. I agree, those arm sleeves are very auntie looking. LOL! At least these options are not as bad as stopping two or three car lengths from the car in front and under a shade (I have seen guys do this even) - that's just too much.

  6. Nothing wrong with that. Japanese women have an invention for that problem - check out Daiso for gloves to protect against sunburn.
