Organic Skincare: Botani Olive Skin Serum

When my eye first lit on the Botani range, a warm glow came over me. Y’ see, I have a thing for organic skincare and for serums containing vitamin C. I have been using TBS Vitamin C Skin Boost on and off for the past few years and while it works, I have always been on the lookout for something affordable with less dimethicone.

You can imagine my reaction when I finally found something which was organic and had vitamin C. I had to get my grubby paws on it!
Botani is a pretty new Australian brand which launched last year. As I have mentioned, the brand is organic, has a no animal testing policy and uses olive-derived squalene as the main selling point for its product. They have a pretty wide variety of products but my eye was set on their Olive Skin Serum from Day One.

Botani products aren’t exactly cheap as the Skin Serum retails at AUD 28 for 15 ml. Happily though, Botani does go on sale fairly frequently at Priceline so it was just a matter of waiting and watching.

The Botani Olive Skin Serum comes packaged in a cute glass dropper bottle (I have a weakness for products in droppers) which makes it easy to control your usage. The only problem is potential breakage while travelling so handle with caution!

Instructions for use are fairly simple: Just massage 1-2 drops into damp skin, let it absorb and top up with moisturiser if necessary. I didn’t have to use moisturiser afterwards as I found the serum heavy enough.

In hindsight, I should have heard warning bells when I saw that it contained olive-derived squalene. My skin doesn’t do too well with olive oil so I shouldn’t have been surprised when I broke out a week later!

As I hate the idea of wastage, I tried using the serum only on my neck but ended up with 3 big zits on my neck. There goes my no-wastage policy. *grumbles*

I have a feeling that the Botani Skin Serum is better suited for mature or really dry skin types as my mother tried it out and didn’t have any problems. Be warned: if you don’t like strong olive scents or heavy textures, this serum is not for you as it is a bit oily.

Verdict? Definitely not a repurchase for me and I won’t be trying out any other Botani products due to the Olive factor. If you have mature skin, give this a shot.

OH MY GOSH!! this is THE best product i have ever bought for my skin. It is a wonderful serum that intensly moisturises & assists with prevention & existing aging. Yes, it is oily however put in on before bed & wake up with (yes, oily but still) radiant, mositurised skin. I used to suffer from moderate to severe acne & was a culprit of sqeezing. I used to put this on to assist in healing & scarring & worked like a charm - actually! I would reccomend to all - men (my partner uses mine all the time), women, children as all natural & organic ingredients. No acne anymore however am still using this wonderful product to assist with aging especially around the eye area. Botani Boost Balancing Moisturiser is a must in my beauty regime as well. with oily skin i can still use under make-up without looking like i have just put my head in a bucket of oil - actually helps with absorbing any excess oil. dont take my word for it - try it out for yourself. as a previous acne sufferer & now have to battle aging etc i am still using these products. I have found that in every step of my skins life (only 29) from acne to preventing premature aging i can use the same products & can always expect excellent results.

I love this serum and find it really hydrating and light for my normal skin type. I use it morning and night as a moisturiser and dont need to put a moisturiser on top
