Monday's beauty announcement: Clear skin at last!

I'm almost afraid to say this for fear of jinxing it. But my skin has been the best it's ever been since puberty hit with a vengeance for the past month or so. The only time it messed up was when I messed up and tried going back to Revlon Colorstay - something my skin will definitely no longer tolerate.


Since switching to a dimethicone & silicone free formulation in Laura Mercier's Oil-Free Foundation, my skin has pretty much cleared up, just purging residual clogged pores. This is one of those moments where I wish I knew what I know now ages ago. *sighs*

I've also been using Derm10's Vitamin C Complex which has, I believed, gradually given my skin an added clarity and glow. When I don't use it at least three times a week, I find my skin grows dull - I just wish it wasn't so costly to replace, it's already half gone! I've also been trialling their Comodone Complex with great results, but I'm waiting for an entire month before I post a review. 


Finally, while this is hard to establish direct cause & effect, I've been taking Blackmore's Cod Liver Oil capsules for the past 2 months to help stabilise my hormones, control my oily skin, clear up my skin and promote skin healing. Well... unfortunately nothing has helped make my skin less oily, but I'm sure it's helped with my skin condition and even better, has increased my energy levels something insane - providing of course I don't screw up my sleeping hours too much for too long. Who knew that chronic fatigue on some days with absolutely no explanation for it could be hormonally linked? Cod Liver Oil is known to help control the androgen hormones (which is tied to oily skin and breakouts), so with this and Evening Primrose Oil taken regularly I've found my energy levels high and PMS darned near negligible. 

Now if I could ONLY find something to help reduce my skin's oiliness I'd be in skin-heaven. Suggestions?

OMG this post gives me hope!!! LOL i will try the laura mercier foundation now :)

for oily skin, i find Kiehls blue herbal moisturizer (?) really works for me. as well as a great primer.

Hi love-aholic, Kiehl's Blue Herbal Moisturiser has a pretty high dimethicone content if I recall from my sample (and it's quite high up the ingredient list). SO if it's not bothering you, you may not actually need to switch to Laura Mercier's which, let's face it, is pricey and a bitch to apply. Still you can get a week's sample from the counters - see if it helps your skin. I noticed some improvement within 3 days.

I think I may need to start taking supplements like cod liver oil and EPO to help with my health issues this year. :(

Rinnah: It's helped me ward off flus when I know i'm juuuust verging on getting them. So do multivites.

Hahaha.. I'll try to be good and take my pills now. BUT. I have been good and have been taking my brekkie at home these days for the past 2 weeks now - cereal with coffee. And healthy brekkie too - cereal, not the coffee. But then I NEED coffee, so ah well.

And I notice that its helped my constipation problem a lot (high fibre in cereal), I'm more energetic throughout the day, and I'm full and happy until lunch. So no snacking on unbelievably sweet kuihs in between. It's a good routine I intend to keep to! =)

Glad to know that there is foundation that fits oily/acne-prone skin. But the only thing that makes me think twice before buying is that it comes without SPF. That means I might need an additional sunscreen protection. Gosh. Double up the $ usage. But for the sake of getting a clear skin, i should give it a try. I'm currently using Dr.G's BB Cream with SPF30 (purchased at SASA). It blends nicely with my skin and makes it look flawless, but it cause break-outs and it seriously freak me out.
So, as the conclusion I will go for the Laura Mercier Foundation =D

Sunshine Girl: Try something with a lower SPF. High SPFs often break out acne prone girls too. I find I have less problems with SPF15 formulations. I then top up with a powder foundation that has SPF20 throughout the day. It's not perfect but it seems to be a happy compromise!

Thanks for sharing! Although I don't really relate to the skin part but the nutrition bit was helpful. I'm looking for some supplements to help increase my energy level and control PMS. Does the EPO have to be of a particular concentration? I'm just starting to take Gingko Biloba.

I wonder if it's possible to trick your skin into thinking that it's already oily by slathering your skin with oil at night and thus producing less oil.... or hydrating products...

Hi, I have skin that becomes very oily because it is dry. Recently I switched to using physiogel lotion/cream as day and night moisturiser. They are great. My skin (F.I.N.A.L.L.Y) feels moisturised and supple. The suppleness lasts even after washing which is fantastic. I have yet to try their cleanser though. Give it a try :)

If you have any updates to your search for oil free makeup I would greatly appreciate it. I am highly allergic to silicones and all I seem to find is tinted silicone marketed as foundation.

Not sure if you will be needing this coz this post is so old.. I stumble upon your blog when I was searching for Daiso's eyelash..

For the oily skin, I realised that Natural Republic's soft creamy egg white foam cleanser works well. I had my boyfriend to test it out coz his face becomes oily very easily and he never uses any other face product (aka no toner no moisture no nothing). His face actual got more matted after using around half bottle of it.
