When is a Gloss Not a Gloss? Lipstick Queen's Oxymoron Matte Gloss in Honest Politician

Earlier this year, I walked into Myers for a Saint and ended up walking out with two Saints AND an Oxymoron instead.

Trying to figure out why this range is called "Oxymoron"? Well, an oxymoron is a figure of speech which combines contradictory terms. This particular product claims to feel and apply like a gloss but looks matte on the lips.

Now that's an oxymoron for you.

When I saw that one of the glosses was named "Honest Politician", I had to pick it up. It seemed like the perfect way to celebrate 3 years of Political Science courses.

Honest Politician is a pretty pink-brown shade which should suit most light-medium skin tones. This swatch is a fairly accurate shot of how the colour looks like under natural lightning. With its pigmentation and matte finish (that was a single swipe), it doesn't look like a gloss now, does it?

Unlike the Saint lipstick, the Oxymoron Matte Gloss failed to blow me away. If you are looking for a moisturising lipgloss, this is not it. It doesn't apply as smoothly as I hoped it would and I really need to prep my lips well before using this gloss or the product sinks into fine lines in a really unflattering way.

Plus, the colour is a bit too pink for my lips.

Happily, the Oxymoron Gloss is a multipurpose product and makes for a really pretty blush. Dabbed on the apples of the cheeks, it gives a pretty and demure English girl colour worthy of Jane Austen heroines.

Each Oxymoron Gloss is packaged with accompanying Aubrey Beardsley illustrations (which I love) and a free lip brush (which I hate). Selling for AUD34.95, this is one heck of an expensive gloss/blush. Check it out if you are tempted but I don't really recommend it.
